Vietnamese EV maker VinFast is all set to announce prices for its first two models in India, the VF6 and VF7 on September 6, 2025. The brand has already begun local assembly at its Thoothukudi plant in Tamil Nadu, which rolled out its first VF7 unit earlier this month. With bookings open since July for a token amount of INR 21,000, the price reveal will be a key moment in VinFast’s India entry strategy.
Both SUVs are designed by Italian studios and pack a mix of global tech and India-specific features. The VF6 will target the compact EV segment, while the VF7 aims for premium buyers looking for performance and space.
VF6: Compact, Clean, Connected
The VF6 is a five-seater electric SUV with a sleek exterior, eyebrow-shaped LED DRLs, projector headlamps, and 18-inch dual-tone alloys. Inside, it gets a dual-tone cabin, 12.9-inch touchscreen, head-up display, and vegan leather upholstery.
Powertrain options include:
- 59.6 kWh battery
- Single motor, FWD
- Two trims: Eco (177 PS, 250 Nm) and Plus (204 PS, 310 Nm)
- Claimed range: 410 km (Eco), 379 km (Plus)
Expect pricing to start around INR 20–25 lakh, placing it against the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, and MG ZS EV.
VF7: Bigger, Bolder, Faster
The VF7 is the larger sibling, with sharper lines, flush door handles, and 19-inch alloys. It gets a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, dual-zone climate control, and Level 2 ADAS. The cabin uses leatherette materials and offers an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.
Powertrain options include:
- 70.8 kWh battery
- FWD (204 PS) and AWD (350 PS, 500 Nm)
- 0–100 km/h: 9.5 sec (FWD), 5.8 sec (AWD)
- WLTP range: 450 km (FWD), 431 km (AWD)
Expected pricing is INR 45–55 lakh, putting it up against the Hyundai Ioniq 5, BMW iX1 LWB, and BYD Sealion 7.
Local Assembly and Dealer Network
VinFast’s Tamil Nadu plant has a current capacity of 50,000 units per year, scalable to 1.5 lakh units depending on demand. The company has signed up 13 dealer partners to open 32 outlets across 27 cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata.
Local production helps VinFast avoid steep import duties, allowing it to price the VF6 and VF7 competitively. Deliveries are expected to begin by mid-September.
