What to expect from the upcoming Tata Sierra?
The Sierra SUV will be the next big launch from Tata in India. It will mark the return of the iconic SUV that shook the Indian car market more than two decades ago.
However, the new-gen Sierra is likely to be positioned above the Harrier, and it will concentrate on the luxury and performance combination. The latest spy shots of a test car have landed from Pune, showing that it will get an overall boxy shape with the big rear quarter glass – similar to the old-gen model.
The test car seen here also gets the new 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, squared wheel arches, and body cladding to cover the off-roading part easily for owners. The rear wiper and washer have been neatly integrated behind the roof-mounted spoiler, which is also a design trait of the Land Rover models owned by Tata.
Moreover, the spy shots also show the dashboard design that has a four-spoke steering wheel draped in white and black leather upholstery – identical to the one we see on the Harrier EV. It will also get a triple-screen display with a new OS and more wireless connectivity features.
The Sierra is rumoured to be based on a new platform that will support the EV and ICE powertrains. The ICE powertrains are likely to be identical to those of the Harrier, but a new 1.5L TGDi turbo-petrol engine will also mark its debut with it. Meanwhile, the 2.0L diesel engine will also be offered alongside.
Speaking of the Sierra EV, it is likely to carry forward its powertrain from the Harrier EV. This way, Tata will be able to offer the QWD feature to the new customers.
Tata has already showcased the car to the dealers at an internal event that took place last month. The production-spec model is slated to launch in India around the festive season this year. The expected price of the new Sierra is Rs 22-28 lakh.
Our say
The upcoming Sierra SUV is one of the most-awaited car launches of this year. It will mark the return of the iconic SUV brand with the new-age features and technology. Tata also plans to introduce a new array of EV models, which will be based on JLR’s platform.
