Triumph Motorcycles is all set to launch the Thruxton 400 in India on August 6, and the bike has been spotted again and this time in a production-ready avatar at a dealer yard. Wrapped in sheets and strapped with accessories, the motorcycle looks ready to hit showroom floors, confirming Triumph’s intent to start deliveries this month.
The Thruxton 400 is essentially a cafe racer version of the Speed 400, sharing its 398cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 39.5 bhp and 37.5 Nm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox and slipper clutch2. However, Triumph is expected to tweak the final drive ratio to suit the Thruxton’s sportier character.
Design: Classic Cafe Racer vibes
The Thruxton 400 draws heavy inspiration from its larger siblings, especially the Thruxton 1200. Key styling elements include:
- Half fairing with a circular LED headlamp
- Clip-on handlebars for a committed riding posture
- Bar-end mirrors and a rear seat cowl
- Bold dual-tone paint schemes, including red with white racing stripes and yellow-silver combos
The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with MRF radial tyres, and uses the same tubular steel frame, USD front forks, and gas-charged rear monoshock as the Speed 400.
Features and Equipment
Expect the Thruxton 400 to carry over most of the Speed 400’s features:
- Dual-channel ABS
- Traction control
- Semi-digital instrument cluster
- LED lighting all around
While the underpinnings remain familiar, the Thruxton’s unique styling and ergonomics make it a standout in the 400cc segment.
Our thoughts
The Thruxton 400 looks stylish, sporty, and doesn’t cost a fortune. If Triumph nails the pricing and doesn’t skimp on build quality, this could be the bike that turns heads at every traffic signal.
