Key highlights
- Tesla to install V4 Superchargers in Mumbai and Delhi, offering up to 267 km of range in 15 minutes.
- Chargers will use CCS Type 2 plugs, compatible with India’s existing EV infrastructure.
- Tesla plans destination chargers, service centres, and delivery hubs to support ownership.
Tesla has officially confirmed the rollout of its DC Supercharger network in India, starting with eight V4 Supercharger stations across Mumbai and Delhi-NCR. This move comes hot on the heels of the Model Y launch, priced from INR 59.89 lakh, and marks a major step in Tesla’s plan to build a full-fledged EV ecosystem in the country.
The V4 Superchargers are Tesla’s latest and fastest charging solution, capable of delivering up to 500 kW per car. For the Model Y, that translates to 267 km of range in just 15 minutes. Each station will feature four charging points, and Tesla will also install destination chargers at hotels and malls for overnight and medium-duration charging.
Where you’ll find them?
Tesla’s first Supercharger locations include:
Mumbai
- Lower Parel
- Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC)
- Navi Mumbai
- Thane
Delhi-NCR
- Aerocity
- Saket
- Gurugram
- Noida
These chargers will use CCS Type 2 connectors, ensuring compatibility with India’s dominant EV charging standard. Tesla will also offer adapters for its proprietary NACS plug, allowing broader access for non-Tesla EVs—though at a higher cost unless subscribed to the network.
What makes V4 Superchargers special
Tesla’s V4 Superchargers are built on a 1,000V bus, with each stall capable of delivering up to 600 kW. Key features include:
- Liquid-cooled 3-meter cable
- Operating range from -30°C to +50°C
- Output of 5–1000 amps per station
- 99.95% uptime globally in 2024 (India’s grid may test that claim)
Tesla is also looking for local partners to host Supercharger stations, and plans to build after-sales service centres, delivery hubs, and logistics infrastructure in both metros.
Our thoughts
The Model Y is great, but without fast charging, it’s just another EV with range anxiety. With V4 chargers in place, Tesla owners can finally plan road trips without praying at every plug point. Now, if they throw in a chai stall next to the charger, I’ll call it a revolution.
