Tesla Model Y long-wheelbase – What to expect?
Tesla has filed the documents with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, revealing a new LWB version of the Model Y EV. The upcoming version will be called Model Y L, and it is likely to be offered with 6 captain seats and 7 seats (bench layout).
As per the leaked document, the LWB version is going to be 186 mm longer than the current Model Y. Additionally, it will be 44 mm taller, which will give it more interior space and enable different seating layout versions.
The Model Y L will be 4,976 mm in length, and it will get a 3,040 mm wheelbase, which will be 150 mm longer than the current short-wheelbase version.
Visually, Tesla has updated the alloy wheel design, added a new boot-integrated spoiler, and a new golden paint shade.
Powering the Model Y L is going to be the same battery pack that propels the Model Y, but it will produce 13 bhp more power output. The Model Y L is reported to have 456 bhp, whilst the standard model gets 443 bhp. Details regarding the range are yet to be known.
Tesla is expected to debut the Model Y L initially in China. The launch can happen in the coming months, following which will be the US market debut.
Our verdict
While Tesla is introducing new luxury oriented variants in China and the other international markets, the US-based EV maker has recently stepped into the Indian EV market. It is highly likely that Tesla will offer its latest models, like the upcoming Model Y L, in the future in India.
