Tesla Launches Model 3 Long Range in China with 830 km range

Key highlights

  • New Model 3 Long Range RWD variant offers 830 km CLTC range
  • Powered by a 78.4 kWh NMC battery and 225 kW motor
  • Priced at Â¥269,500 (approx. INR 32.85 lakh), deliveries begin September 2025

Tesla has officially launched the Model 3 Long Range RWD in China, marking its longest-range electric vehicle to date. Priced at ¥269,500, the new variant is powered by a 78.4 kWh Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) battery supplied by LG and delivers a CLTC-rated range of 830 km on a single charge.

This model is built at Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory and joins the refreshed Model 3 lineup, which now includes four variants: Standard RWD, Long Range RWD, Long Range AWD, and Performance AWD.

Powertrain and Performance

The Model 3 Long Range RWD features:

  • A 225 kW rear-mounted motor producing 302 hp
  • 0–100 km/h in 5.2 seconds
  • Top speed of 200 km/h
  • 18-inch wheels as standard, with optional 19-inch wheels for Â¥6,000 extra

Tesla claims the new motor setup improves acceleration and efficiency over the standard RWD variant, which uses a 194 kW motor.

Battery and Charging

The 78.4 kWh battery pack enables the record-breaking range and supports fast charging. Tesla hasn’t disclosed exact charging times, but the car is compatible with its Supercharger network across China.

The CLTC cycle, used for range certification in China, typically shows higher numbers than WLTP due to its urban-centric testing. Expect real-world range to be closer to 700 km under WLTP standards.

Features and Incentives

Tesla is offering a range of launch benefits in China:

  • 5-year 0% interest financing
  • Â¥8,000 insurance subsidy
  • Â¥8,000 paint credit
  • Free Enhanced Autopilot transfer for a limited time

The car retains the familiar Model 3 design and cabin layout, with no major changes to exterior dimensions or interior features.

Market Impact

Tesla delivered 67,886 units of Model 3 and Model Y in China in July, down 5.2% from June. The launch of this new variant is expected to boost sales, especially among buyers prioritizing range and affordability.
