Key highlights
- Renault Kwid EV test mule spotted in full camouflage, hinting at final-stage validation.
- Likely to borrow powertrain and features from the Dacia Spring EV sold in Europe.
- Expected to launch by late 2025 with a starting price around INR 7 lakh.
Renault’s long-awaited entry into the electric hatchback space is finally gaining momentum. The Kwid EV, based on the global Dacia Spring EV, has been spotted testing again on Indian roads—this time in full camouflage, suggesting that the launch is inching closer. Sources indicate a possible rollout by late 2025 or early 2026, making it one of the most affordable EVs in India when it arrives.
The test mule retains the familiar Kwid silhouette but adds EV-specific styling cues like Y-shaped LED DRLs, a full-width LED light bar, and chunky body cladding. Alloy wheels and squared-off arches give it a rugged, urban-ready look.
Powertrain and Range
The Kwid EV is expected to share its underpinnings with the Dacia Spring EV, which comes with a 26.8 kWh lithium-ion battery and two motor options:
- 33 kW (44 hp)
- 48 kW (65 hp) Both deliver 125 Nm of torque, with a WLTP-rated range of 225 km.
Charging times are modest:
- 11–13 hours via standard AC socket
- 45 minutes from 20% to 80% using a 30 kW DC fast charger
While final specs for India are yet to be confirmed, Renault is likely to localize components to keep costs competitive.
Interior and Features
Though interior spy shots are still elusive, expectations are high. The Kwid EV could offer:
- 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- 7-inch digital instrument cluster
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- USB ports and wireless charging
Safety features may include ESC, hill start assist, and emergency call function. Some ADAS features like lane keeping assist and autonomous emergency braking are offered globally, but may be trimmed for India.

Pricing and Rivals
Renault is expected to price the Kwid EV aggressively, starting around INR 7 lakh (ex-showroom). That puts it squarely against:
- Tata Tiago EV (INR 7.99 lakh)
- MG Comet EV (INR 7.50 lakh)
- Citroen eC3 (INR 11.99 lakh)
If Renault nails the pricing and feature mix, the Kwid EV could become the most accessible electric car for Indian families.
