New 460 BHP Tesla Model Y Performance revealed

Key highlights

  • Dual-motor AWD setup delivers 460 bhp and 0–100 km/h in 3.3 seconds
  • Features Nurburgring-tuned suspension, adaptive dampers, and high-density battery
  • Launch markets include Europe, Middle East, and Africa; India not confirmed yet

Tesla has officially revealed the new Model Y Performance, and it’s not just a power bump, it’s a full-blown transformation. Developed at the Nurburgring, this is the most potent version of Tesla’s best-selling SUV, packing 460 bhp, a reworked chassis, and a new high-density battery that delivers 580 km of WLTP-certified range.

The Model Y Performance will be built at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Brandenburg, Germany, and will first go on sale in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Deliveries begin in October 2025, with prices starting at £61,990 (approx. INR 83.6 lakh).

Powertrain and Performance

Under the skin, the Model Y Performance uses the same Performance 4DU dual motors as the top-spec Model 3. It produces 460 bhp and 0–100 km/h in 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h.

Tesla hasn’t disclosed battery capacity, but the new high-density cell pack matches the weight of the standard unit while offering more energy. It supports ultra-fast charging, recovering 240 km of range in just 15 minutes.

Suspension and Handling

Tesla has borrowed adaptive dampers from the Model 3 Performance but tuned them specifically for the Model Y. The SUV also gets:

  • Stiffer springs
  • Stronger anti-roll bars
  • Reinforced bushings
  • Rigid rear subframe

This setup was tested and refined at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, making the Model Y Performance more than just a straight-line sprinter.

Exterior and interior upgrades

Visually, the Performance variant gets:

  • Redesigned bumpers for better aero
  • Carbon-fibre rear spoiler
  • Red brake calipers
  • 21-inch Arachnid alloy wheels

Inside, Tesla adds:

  • New sports seats with deeper bolsters
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Carbon-fibre trim inserts
  • 16-inch centre display with 80% more pixels than before2

India launch status

Tesla currently sells only the Standard and Long-Range RWD versions of the Model Y in India. There’s no official word on whether the Performance variant will make it here, but given the growing appetite for premium EVs, it’s not off the table.
