New Hyundai electric car coming soon
The latest teaser image of the upcoming Hyundai EV shows flared wheel arches and a ducktail spoiler integrated into a hatchback boot design. The image hints at a new, affordable, and smallest electric car from the Korean carmaker, which will debut on September 9 at the IAA Motor Show in Munich, Germany.
While not much is known about this unnamed EV, online rumours hint that it will most likely be called Ioniq 2, and it will share its platform and battery packs with the Kia EV3, which also made its global debut just months ago.
If so, then the Ioniq 2 will be based on the E-GMP architecture, and there will be a single battery option – 58.3 kWh (201 bhp and 430 km range). Although the Kia EV 3 also gets a bigger 81.4 kWh battery pack that offers up to 600 km range, we believe it will not find its way to Hyundai’s smallest EV.
In terms of design, it will take inspiration from the Ioniq EV range. Hence, features like full-length connected LED lights, flared wheel arches, and clean and unique design language are expected to be loaded on the Ioniq 2.
This unnamed EV will mark its global debut next month, and only then will we get clarity regarding its India launch in the future.
Our say
Hyundai’s Ioniq range of EVs has been a successful hit in the international markets, including India. The upcoming small EV will be targeted for city customers looking for an efficient, smart, and performance-packed commuter option.
