Why is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class popular globally?
Introduced in 1979 globally, the G-Class SUV was primarily designed for off-roading and rugged terrain use. Designed and built on a ladder-frame chassis, the capabilities of the G Wagon were later known worldwide as the brand kept expanding its portfolio with the G-Class launch in the global markets.
Now, after four decades of being in production, the popular SUV has crossed the production mark of 6 lakh units. This is nothing short of a feat for the company, as the brand has kept the design aesthetics of the G-Class nearly unchanged, yet keeping it modern.
The latest G-Class is offered with various powertrains, including a diesel, petrol, and an electric version. In fact, the sixth lakh unit sold is an electric G Wagon, specifically a G 580 with the EQ technology, sold in an Obsidian Black exterior colour.
Over the years, Mercedes has kept the essence of the G Wagon unaltered. The latest generation of the SUV is still offered with a standard 4X4 drivetrain, which benefits from the locking differentials and shift-on-fly technology with multiple ride options.
Our say
The production milestone of the G-Class SUV shows that customers are attracted by the iconic brand name due to its capabilities, luxury, and performance quotient.
