Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 450 4MATIC sets Guinness World Record

Key highlights

  • EQS SUV 450 4MATIC endures a 51.2°C temperature swing, from Rajasthan’s 47.5°C heat to -3.7°C at Khardung La.
  • Covers 2,300+ km in 9 days, showcasing real-world range, off-road capability, and luxury.
  • Marks second Guinness World Record for Mercedes-Benz EQS range in India.

Mercedes-Benz India has bagged a new Guinness World Records title with its locally assembled EQS SUV 450 4MATIC, proving that electric luxury can thrive in India’s most unforgiving conditions. The record? Greatest temperature change achieved by an electric production car—a staggering 51.2°C swing from the blistering heat of Rajasthan to the icy heights of Ladakh.

The journey started in Jaisalmer, where ambient temperatures hit 47.5°C, and ended at Khardung La, one of the world’s highest motorable passes, where the mercury dropped to -3.7°C.

Nine Days, 2,300+ kilometres, zero range anxiety

Over nine days, the EQS SUV tackled everything from city traffic to treacherous mountain passes like Zoji La and Khardung La, covering 2,324 km with eight full charges. The SUV maintained an impressive efficiency of 4.32 km/kWh, thanks to its 122 kWh battery pack, which offers a real-world range of 600+ km.

The drive route spanned Jodhpur, Jaipur, Zirakpur, Jammu, Srinagar, Kargil, and Leh, before reaching the record-setting destination.

Tech that made it possible

The EQS SUV 450 4MATIC is no ordinary EV. It packs:

  • Dual permanent synchronous motors with 360 hp and 800 Nm
  • 4MATIC all-wheel drive with Torque Shift for dynamic power distribution
  • OFFROAD mode, AIRMATIC suspension, and adjustable ground clearance
  • MBUX Hyperscreen, Dolby Atmos® audio, and Level 2 ADAS for safety and comfort

Even at 18,379 feet, the SUV remained composed, proving its mettle across India’s most extreme terrains.

Second record, same DNA

This isn’t the EQS range’s first Guinness title. In 2024, the EQS 580 4MATIC sedan set the record for longest journey by an EV on a single charge, covering 949 km from Bengaluru to Navi Mumbai. The new record reinforces Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to luxury EVs that perform under pressure.
