Why has the Maruti Suzuki Jimny XL stopped in Australia?
While the Indian car market has not accepted the Suzuki’s little 4X4, the Jimny 5-Door is a very popular SUV internationally. Among its top markets, Australia is one where customers simply love the Jimny for its versatility and capabilities.
However, due to unspecified reasons, Suzuki has immediately halted the sales and bookings of the Jimny XL in Australia. Mind you, not long ago, the 3-Door Jimny was also axed in Australia as it did not meet the Australian safety specs. While the 3-Door Jimny is scheduled to return in 2026, the Jimny XL did not have any such issues.
Additionally, customers had started opting for the Jimny XL due to its practical cabin and the same capabilities as the 3-Door model. Moreover, it is equipped with the latest safety tech, which further makes it worth it.
While we are still awaiting the revealing of the actual reasons behind this step, the company has also started refunding its customers. However, customers who wish to stay in the queue are welcomed by the brand.
The Australian-spec model is manufactured and exported from India. The company has stated that it is further evaluating the manufacturing process and the steps involved in the India facility.
Our say
As per our speculations, the Suzuki Jimny XL might be facing some internal issues related to the quality control, or a defective part might have been damaging the car beyond expectations – we’re not sure, but we do know that Suzuki will soon resume the sales of the Jimny XL in Australia.
