Maruti Suzuki e Vitara: Gujarat production details

Inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, the e Vitara electric SUV production has begun at Maruti’s Hansalpur, Gujarat-based production facility. The new e Vitara is slated to be exported to 100 global markets, which include Europe and Japan.

Interestingly, the EV was slated to debut in India by March 2025. However, the global crisis of rare earth materials from China has pushed the launch timeline to an indefinite deadline. Although some online reports hint at the launch by the end of this year.

Speaking of the EV production at the Hansalpur production plant, Maruti has specifically designed the facility to remain connected to the Mundra port for seamless exports. This will be done through the multimodal cargo corridor.

PM Modi also inaugurated a new TDS lithium-ion battery production facility, which is co-developed and operated by Denso, Suzuki, and Toshiba. This facility will provide more than 80% of the batteries to Suzuki for manufacturing EVs.

The e Vitara made its Indian debut earlier this year. It is based on the Heartect-E platform, which has been specially developed for the upcoming EVs. Maruti will be offering the e Vitara in two battery packs – 49 kWh and 61 kWh, with a maximum range upwards of 400 km.

The expected launch price of the Maruti e Vitara in India is Rs 25-30 lakh.

Our say

The production commencement of the e Vitara indicates that the electric SUV is nearing the launch timeline in India. We are expecting the company to launch it before the festive season this year.
