LFA successor Lexus Sport Concept unveiled

Key highlights

  • Lexus Sport Concept revealed at Monterey Car Week, previewing next-gen performance design
  • Features aggressive styling, active aero, and hints at hybrid or electric powertrain
  • Expected to evolve into the LFA successor by late 2026

Lexus has pulled the wraps off its new Sport Concept at Monterey Car Week 2025, and it’s not just a showpiece, it’s a clear signal that the brand is ready to dive back into the high-performance game. This low-slung, wide-bodied coupe previews the long-awaited successor to the legendary LFA, and it’s dripping with motorsport DNA.

The Sport Concept blends the drama of the original LFA with the sharpness of modern GT racers.  Lexus calls it “progressively styled, future-focused, yet truly authentic,” and that’s not just marketing fluff. From every angle, this thing looks ready to hit the track.

Design

The Sport Concept carries a long bonnet, compact cabin, and short rear deck—classic front-midship proportions. Up front, it features L-shaped LED lights, vertical air intakes, and a trapezoidal central air dam. The bonnet sports angular ducts, while the sides are sculpted with deep creases and functional air channels that feed into the C-pillar intakes.

The roof is blacked out, the mirrors are replaced by cameras, and blue brake calipers peek through black-and-silver alloys. At the rear, there’s an active spoiler, a massive layered diffuser, and a full-width LED light bar. Notably, there’s no visible exhaust setup, hinting at a possible electric or hybrid drivetrain2.

Powertrain

Lexus hasn’t confirmed the powertrain, but the lack of exhaust pipes and the silent promo video suggest a pure EV setup. That said, reports indicate the production version could use a twin-turbo V8 hybrid, possibly with a rear transaxle gearbox for optimal weight distribution.

The concept shares design cues with the Toyota GT Concept and the GR GT3 race car, suggesting a shared architecture. If true, expect serious performance—think over 660 kW of combined output and handling benchmarked against the Mercedes-AMG GT R3.

Track-Ready Details

Even without full specs, the Sport Concept screams performance. Highlights include:

  • Massive rear vents for drivetrain cooling
  • Side window intakes likely feeding brakes or transaxle
  • Four mini fans mounted above the third brake light (yes, really)
  • Tucked exhaust outlets beneath the rear wing on early prototypes

These quirks may not make it to production, but they show Lexus is serious about building a car that’s more than just a pretty face.
