Is Honda Shine 100 DX better than its rivals?

The newly introduced Shine 100 DX is based on the Shine 100 standard. However, it gets new graphics and cosmetic upgrades that make it more premium than the base version.

Visually, it gets a chrome highlight on the headlamp cowl, new graphics, and a new LCD cluster that displays the regular information, including the speedometer, odometer, range left, etc. Meanwhile, it is available in four colour options, which include the Pearl Igneous Black, Athletic Blue Metallic, Imperial Red Metallic, and Geny Gray Metallic.

Apart from these new add-ons, the Shine 100 DX remains unaltered as compared to the base variant. It continues to be powered by the 98.98cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that develops 7.28 bhp of peak power and 8.04 Nm of peak torque. This power is mated to a 4-speed transmission, while the engine is E20 fuel compliant.

Hardware-wise, the Shine 100 DX is suspended over a telescopic front suspension, dual shock absorbers at the rear, and drum brakes at both ends, 17-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres.

The main competitors of the Shine 100 DX are the Hero Splendor Xtec and Hero Passion Plus.

Our say

The new Shine 100 DX is Honda’s attempt to take over the 100cc segment king, which is the Hero Splendor. Honda is still relying on the entry-level commuter motorcycle segment due to its major stake in the total two-wheeler sales in India.
