Honda Activa e: may soon let you charge at home

Key highlights

  • Honda could offer a charging dock for the Activa e:, letting you juice up batteries at home.
  • Activa e: and its European cousin, the CUV e:, use two removable packs instead of a fixed battery.
  • Each pack takes 6 hours to reach full charge (0–100%) or 3 hours for a 25–75% top-up via a 270W offboard charger.

Honda’s Activa e: has drawn praise for its smooth ride and quiet motor. Its one drawback? You must visit one of Honda’s few battery-swap stations—mainly in Bengaluru—to refuel. That could change if Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India borrows a solution from Europe.

Honda’s charging dock

In markets like Spain, Honda sells the CUV e: scooter with two 1.3 kWh battery packs and a compact charging dock. You simply slide each pack into the dock at home, plug in the 270W charger, and walk away. Honda claims 0–100% takes six hours, or a quick three-hour top-up from 25–75%.

How can it be implemented in India?

The Indian Activa e: uses slightly beefier 1.5 kWh packs (3 kWh total) but lacks any onboard port. Owners can’t charge batteries on the scooter itself. Instead they rely purely on swapping. A home dock would solve that, letting you plug in from your living room or parking spot.

Bye-bye BaaS?

Battery-as-a-Service riders would still pay their monthly fee, but gain freedom from hunting down stations. They could top up overnight and tackle daily commutes without detours. With swapping points planned for Mumbai and Delhi next, a home charger option would round out Honda’s network.

Whether HMSI and Honda Power Pack Energy India roll this out remains to be seen. If they do, the Activa e: could finally match the convenience of rivals that let you plug in at home—no scooter stand required.

Our thoughts

A home dock would make the Activa e: feel like a true daily commuter. Swapping is clever, but swapping stations are still rare. Give me a charging bay in my garage, and I’ll park, plug, and go in the morning, just like my phone.
