List of the sub-650cc bikes to become expensive

The new GST rates and revised slabs are here for 2025, and we have good and bad news for you. The good news is that if you plan to buy a bike below 400cc, it will not attract 10% less tax. However, motorcycles above 350cc will now become 12% more expensive on the sticker price.

This means that the rapidly growing 350-650cc motorcycle market of India is set to slow down. The reason is going to be the impulsive hike in the rates. Earlier, the tax was 28% and 3% Cess, which has now been capped at 40%.

This means that the ex-showroom cost of popular bikes like the Triumph Speed 400 and the Royal Enfield Himalayan is going to be hiked by thousands. Moreover, this will result in a further increase in on-road prices after including the revised RTO and insurance charges, which could effectively be 10-12% higher.

Further, the CBU and CKD units, like the Harley-Davidson bikes, are likely to witness cost spikes in the range of lakhs. Hence, we have sorted a small list of the popular sub-650cc bikes for you that are set to become expensive. See below:

  • Royal Enfield: Himalayan, Guerilla 450, Interceptor 650, Bear 650, Classic 650, Continental GT 650, Shotgun 650
  • Triumph: Speed 400, Speed T4, Scrambler 400X, Scrabler 400XC, Thruxton 400
  • KTM: 390 Duke, 390 RC, 390 Adventure/X, 390 Enduro/R
  • Bajaj: Pulsar NS400Z, Dominar 400
  • Aprilia: RS457 and Tuono 457
  • Harley-Davidson: X440
  • Husqvarna: Svartpilen 401
  • BSA: Gold Star 650

Our say

The newly revised GST rate slabs are surely going to help boost the sales of the mass market products. However, the relatively new and yet growing market of the premium bikes is going to feel the heat in sales due to the increased prices.
