Ford Bronco Electric, Plug-in Hybrid models revealed for China

Ford has unveiled the electric version and the extended range EV version of its most popular SUV, the Bronco. Read the complete details of the new Bronco New Energy below.

Ford Bronco Electric details

Ford Bronco EV

The newly revealed electric Bronco is based on BYD’s battery architecture, and it has been badged ‘Bronco New Energy’.

It features a 105.4 kWh battery pack with the trademark ‘Blade Battery’. It is mated to dual electric motors, which cumulatively produce 311 bhp of peak power.

In terms of performance, the Bronco can touch a top speed of up to 170 km/h and has various ride modes, including the Off-road mode, and more. Meanwhile, the CLTC range of the Bronco EV is 650 km on a full charge.

In terms of design, the Bronco EV features the same styling as the Bronco Sport. It also gets the rear door-mounted spare wheel, all-terrain tyres, LED lights, flush door handles, a panoramic sunroof, and more.

Ford Bronco PHEV details

Ford has also revealed a new Extended Range Electric version of the Bronco. It features dual electric motors with AWD, and gets charged from the 1.5-litre, 147 bhp petrol engine. The ICE powertrain is used as a generator to charge the electric motors.

As far as the fuel efficiency/range is concerned, the Bronco PHEV can deliver a pure EV range of up to 220 km with the use of its 43.7 kWh battery pack, while it can be driven up to 1,220 km with the combined use of the electric motors and the engine.

Ford will be exclusively selling the Bronco EV and PHEV models in China with the help of its joint venture with Jiangling Motors (JMC). Both of these cars are expected to launch in Q4 2025.

Our verdict

The new Bronco EV and PHEV are aimed at the Chinese market, which is EV crazy currently. The Bronco’s evolution has been nothing short of exemplary in terms of technology and off-road capabilities.
