Royal Enfield’s electric chapter is finally hitting the streets. The Flying Flea C6, first showcased at EICMA 2024, has now been spotted undergoing road tests in Chennai. This marks a major step toward production for what could be the brand’s first electric motorcycle. The test mule, wrapped in camouflage, still reveals enough to confirm that Royal Enfield is sticking to its roots with a classic silhouette, minimal bodywork, and unmistakable old-school charm.
Design
The Flying Flea C6 draws inspiration from the original Flying Flea motorcycles used during World War II. It features girder-style front forks, a hardtail-style rear (with a hidden monoshock), and a magnesium battery casing with cooling fins that mimic the look of air-cooled engines2. The bike rides on 19-inch alloy wheels, with strutted fenders, split seats, and a circular instrument console that supports Bluetooth connectivity.
Despite its vintage styling, the chassis is built using forged aluminium, and the battery housing is designed to keep weight low while improving thermal efficiency. The upright riding stance and slim profile make it ideal for city commuting, while the removable pillion seat adds a layer of practicality.
Powertrain and Performance
Royal Enfield hasn’t revealed official specs yet, but early estimates suggest the Flying Flea C6 will deliver performance similar to a 250–350cc petrol motorcycle. It uses a mid-mounted motor paired with a belt drive, mounted on the right side. The expected range is between 100–150 km, powered by a 4–5 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The battery pack is IP67-rated and features active thermal control and cell-level monitoring.
Charging will be possible via a standard three-pin socket, and the bike will support OTA updates through a dedicated app. Dual disc brakes and dual-channel ABS are expected as standard.
Tech and Connectivity
The Flying Flea C6 will come equipped with a round digital touchscreen cluster offering ride analytics, navigation, anti-theft alerts, and smartphone-based keyless ignition. Royal Enfield has developed all core EV components in-house, including the motor, battery management system, vehicle control unit, and software stack. The system can adapt acceleration, braking, and regenerative feedback based on rider input, with over two lakh combinations of ride settings.
Lean-sensing ABS and cruise control are also expected, along with geo-fencing and remote diagnostics. The EV program is being led by a dedicated team of over 200 engineers across India and the UK.
