- Gets a raked handlebar, tracker side plates, and different ergonomics
- Launch likely in the coming months
Triumph India seems to be on a roll. The company is launching new 400cc bikes one after another. Just days after the launch of the Thruxton 400, we have spied the first test mule of what looks like a flat tracker version of the 400cc platform. Read all the details below.

Triumph 400 Flat Tracker: What to expect?
What you see here are the first spy shots of the unnamed flat tracker version based on the Speed 400. The test bike looks neat and production-ready as it is draped in black camouflage.
The first thing to notice is the raked handlebars that offer a slightly committed riding position to the rider. Additionally, it has different side panels, which are inspired by the flat tracker motorcycles. We suspect these panels will get numbering or customisation options for customers.
The rest of the bike is more or less the same as the Speed 400. It has a small flyscreen over the LED headlamp, USD forks, a rear monoshock, 17-inch alloys, and the twin end-can exhaust carried from the Scrambler 400X.
The tail section is fitted with the same lights and mudguard as the newly launched Thruxton 400. The aluminium grab rail for the pillion is painted in black colour, which we expect will be painted in a contrasting shade on the production-spec bike.
In terms of features, it has the same semi-digital instrument console as the rest of the 400cc siblings. The fuel tank design is similar to the Thruxton 400 as it has an offset filler cap. LED lights are visible, and Bluetooth connectivity will also be offered as we expect.
Powering it will be the same 399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine as the other 400cc siblings. This unit makes 39.5 bhp and 37.5 Nm of power and torque. Although the 6-speed gearbox is likely to get different sprockets and re-tuning for a proper flat tracker experience.
As far as the launch is concerned, our assumption is that it will debut by the end of this year. Triumph is likely to position it below the Scrambler 400XC.
Our say
While Triumph’s strategy of expanding the 400cc platform is on the right path, we think that the Flat Tracker 400 is likely to be more of a nice offering that will likely offer customisation options to customers, along with the thrill of riding.
