Mercedes-Benz EQE: What went wrong?
As per a latest online report, Mercedes-Benz is all set to axe its EQE SUV and Saloon models internationally. The report hints that an internal decision has been made after a long assessment of the upcoming EVs and the EQE range overlap. The EQE SUV and Saloon models are currently manufactured in four international markets.
As far as the replacement is concerned, Mercedes is set to debut the all-new GLC EQ electric SUV this month at the upcoming Munich Motor Show. It is going to replace the EQE SUV that is based on the EVA platform with 400V architecture. The GLC EQ is based on an 800V MB.EA-M platform that is more capable, lightweight, and efficient than the EVA.
Meanwhile, the EQE Saloon will be replaced by the C-Class EQ electric saloon that is scheduled to debut in 2026. It will also be based on the MB.EA-M platform, thus allowing it to be equipped with the latest features and comfort, including the rear-axle steering wheel and more. It will be a subsequent replacement to the EQE Sedan at every parameter.
Mercedes-Benz has clearly reassessed the positioning of the EQE cars. If not, the brand had already chalked out the updation of the EQE’s 400V architecture to a more capable 800V platform. This new 800V EVA platform is likely to be offered on the next update of the EQS range.
Our say
The EQE Saloon and SUV have been positioned as affordable EVs that sit below the top-of-the-line EQS range globally. However, the company’s future vision with the new EVs incoming might disrupt the positioning and reduce the relevance of the EQE models among customers. Therefore, the end of production is the only way to sort it.
