Bharat NCAP testing of E-Rickshaws: What to expect?
As per a latest report published online, the government of India is planning to introduce crash test ratings for the electric rickshaws. This step comes after a long discussion as the sales and numbers of e-rickshaws keep growing nationwide.
At the 7th FCCI Road Safety Awards, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, commented that the official plan to introduce BNCAP for e-rickshaws has been chalked out. He also added that the government is assessing how to increase the safety of this mode of transport, as it is already in huge numbers.
Speaking of the stats, nearly 5 lakh road accidents occur in our country annually, causing 1.8 lakh deaths, which primarily include people of the age group 18-45. Additionally, 30,000 people die because of not wearing helmets, while 16,000 deaths occur because of not using seatbelts.
With a commitment to change these stats, the government is working hard and trying to find the best possible solutions. One such recent change was the introduction of 6 airbags for every Indian car. Even BNCAP was recently introduced, which mimics the GNCAP testing procedures.
