Device that tests alcohol level before you drive

A group of engineers from the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) – Hyderabad have developed a device which would test the alcohol level of the driver before he even puts on the ignition of the vehicle.

The device, called DADD (Device against drunken driving), consists of a micro controller, a GSM module and obviously an alcohol sensor. The car will not turn on unless the driver takes the test and only if the levels are within permissible levels will the vehicle turn on. The total cost of the device is about 36,800. This will ensure that under no circumstances would a drunk person be behind the wheel, hence keeping the driver and pedestrians out of harm’s way.

The device was developed by Capt Karan Goswami, Capt Rajeet Bhambhu and Capt Kshitij Mishra. They are all graduating students of MCEME and presented this project in front of the president Mr Pranab Mukherjee, who was a guest at the convocation ceremony.
