Citroen e-Spacetourer MPV India launch possible?
As reported online, Citroen is seriously evaluating the e-Spacetourer for the Indian market. This comes after seeing the rise in sales of the premium MPVs in India, including the new Kia Carnival and the Toyota Vellfire.
The rumours suggest that Citroen will most probably bring the e-Spacetourer as a CBU (full import) model. This will be beneficial for the brand as the newly signed UK-India FTA treaty will reduce the import taxes substantially.
Speaking of the e-Spacetourer, it is a popular electric MPV in the global markets, including Europe. Primarily known for its big size and spacious cabin with three-row captain seats, the e-Spacetourer offers luxury and practicality.
Being an electric vehicle, Citroen offers it with two battery pack options: 49 kWh and 75 kWh. The 49 kWh battery pack variant has a smaller wheelbase, and it offers 320 km of range. Meanwhile, the long-wheelbase 75 kWh model offers 348 km of range.
Considering its size and features, Citroen will position it between the Kia Carnival and the BYD eMax 7 MPVs. The expected pricing of the e-Spacetourer in India is Rs 30 lakh.
Our verdict
The rise of the luxury MPVs in India shows that the new-age buyers are fond of luxury and practicality. In fact, the Toyota Vellfire sold 1,155 units in 2024 itself, while its ex-showroom price is Rs 1 crore. This raises hope for Citroen, as the e-Spacetourer can become an affordable option to the expensive ICE MPV rivals.
