Citroen India has officially teased the upcoming Basalt X, a premium variant of its coupe-SUV, ahead of its launch later this month. Positioned above the standard Basalt, the Basalt X aims to elevate the brand’s design and feature game while staying true to its quirky French DNA. Pre-bookings are now open nationwide for a token amount of INR 11,000.
The Basalt X is part of Citroen ’s ‘Shift Into the New’ 2.0 strategy, which focuses on customer-centric upgrades and smarter mobility solutions. This new variant is expected to play a key role in expanding Citroen ’s footprint in the compact SUV segment.
Design and interior upgrades
The teaser images reveal an all-black exterior theme, reminiscent of the Dark Edition launched earlier this year. It rides on dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels, and while the silhouette remains unchanged, the cabin gets a noticeable makeover.
Inside, the Basalt X features a black and tan interior theme, replacing the standard model’s all-white setup. Bronze accents on the AC vents and infotainment surround add a touch of luxury. A rear centre armrest with cupholders and a translucent dashboard strip hint at possible ambient lighting integration3.
Features and tech
The Basalt X is expected to retain core features from the standard Basalt, including:
- 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- 7-inch digital driver’s display
- Auto climate control with rear AC vents
- Wireless phone charger
- Adjustable under-thigh support for rear seats
New additions may include keyless entry, push-button start/stop, and a 360-degree camera, similar to what we saw on the recently launched C3X.
Safety remains a priority, with six airbags, hill hold assist, TPMS, ISOFIX mounts, and rear parking sensors with camera expected as standard.
Powertrain and pricing
Under the hood, the Basalt X will continue with the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, producing 109 bhp and up to 205 Nm of torque, depending on transmission choice. Buyers can expect both 5-speed manual and 6-speed torque-converter automatic options3.
Pricing is likely to command a premium of INR 10,000–INR 25,000 over the current top-end Basalt, which is priced at INR 14.10 lakh (ex-showroom).
