Bajaj Auto has announced the resumption of Chetak deliveries across all dealerships, overcoming a global shortage of rare earth magnets that had disrupted supply. The production ramp-up comes just in time for the festive season, ensuring that the growing demand for the popular electric scooter is met without delays.
Overcoming the supply challenge
In recent months, the shortage of rare earth magnets had moderated Chetak deliveries. With demand continuing to grow, the gap between bookings and supply widened. Bajaj Auto, however, has managed to secure a stable flow of components, restoring production ahead of schedule. Shipments resumed on August 20, marking a faster-than-expected recovery.
Market position and demand
Chetak has been witnessing robust momentum in the market. The electric scooter has doubled its market share since April last year and closed FY25 as the undisputed leader in India’s electric scooter space. Bajaj Auto states that this performance reflects the strong trust customers place in the scooter’s design, reliability, and performance.

With sufficient inventory of key materials secured, Bajaj is confident of maintaining steady supply through the festive period. Eric Vas, President of Bajaj Auto’s Urbanite Business Unit, said the brand is scaling up production to meet rising demand, while ensuring that quality remains uncompromised.
