Affordable E-Clutch for CB350 and other Honda bikes soon?

In a recent media interaction, Honda’s top official confirmed that the company has been working on developing an affordable version of the E-Clutch for the Indian market, especially for the affordable motorcycles.

While this might sound familiar to the CBR650R and CBR650 motorcycle E-Clutch technology, the brand has confirmed that it will not be exactly the same, but the idea of eliminating the use of the clutch for bumper-to-bumper traffic riding is similar.

Speaking of the E-Clutch, riders can seamlessly shift the gears even from standstill, without using the clutch. This technology is currently available in the 650cc inline-four cylinder bikes of Honda. However, using the complex E-Clutch in affordable bikes like the CB350 is not feasible; hence, something more affordable is under development.

Not just Honda, but other manufacturers like Ducati are also developing fully automated clutch systems for their products. Honda already has the DCT automatic transmission that is featured on the Africa Twin adventure motorcycle.

Our say

It will be very interesting to see how Honda manages to incorporate the automated clutch system with efficiency in its affordable products. However, this technology is still far away before making it to production.
