Citroen Basalt X launched with more features and lower price

Key highlights

  • Citroen launches the Basalt X with CARA, India’s first intelligent in-car assistant
  • Introductory price starts at INR 12.89 lakh, deliveries begin this festive season
  • New premium features include ventilated seats, HALO 360° camera, and six airbags as standard

Citroen India has expanded its Basalt range with the new Basalt X, priced from INR 12.89 lakh (introductory). The highlight is CARA, an AI-driven in-car companion developed in India for global markets. CARA responds naturally to voice commands, integrates with vehicle functions, manages calls, navigation, and even provides real-time updates like flight status and cricket scores. It also supports 52 languages, making it one of the most versatile in-car assistants in the segment.

Premium Interiors and Features

The Basalt X gets notable upgrades inside, including soft-touch leatherette trim, chic gold accents, diffused ambient lighting, and ventilated seats. A 26 cm bezel-less infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay pairs with a 17.7 cm driver display. Practicality is backed by segment-first features like smart tilt cushions, winged headrests, and tropicalized auto AC with rear vents.

Safety First

Citroen has equipped the Basalt X with six airbags, ESP, Hill Hold Control, ISOFIX mounts, and TPMS as standard. The Basalt also uses 85% high-grade steel for structural strength, adding reassurance in a segment where cost often compromises safety. The HALO 360-degree camera with seven viewing modes further enhances driver awareness.

Performance Options

The SUV-coupe is powered by Citroen’s 1.2L Gen 3 PureTech engines: a naturally aspirated 82 PS unit and a 110 PS turbo-petrol with 205 Nm of torque. Gearbox choices include 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT, and 6-speed AT. With 180 mm ground clearance, high approach/departure angles, and Citroen’s Advanced Comfort suspension, the Basalt X balances urban polish with light off-road usability.

Competitors

At this price, the Basalt X competes with the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza, and Tata Nexon. While rivals emphasize connected tech and performance, Citroen is betting on its design flair and CARA’s conversational intelligence to carve its niche.

Final Thoughts

The Basalt X finally gets the features it deserved. CARA is the big talking point, but it’s the combination of comfort, safety, and smart pricing that makes this SUV-coupe a serious alternative in the crowded sub-compact space.
