Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch a new SUV in India. Rumoured to be called ‘Escudo’, the upcoming SUV has been teased online before the launch. Read below what to expect from it.

Maruti Suzuki Escudo: What to expect?

As seen in the first teaser image, the sharp C-shaped LED taillight design has been teased by Maruti. While every other car has a connected light setup nowadays, the teaser shows multiple LED bars placed horizontally. The turn signal and the brake lamp is neatly hidden underneath the 3D design of the LED light.

With that said, we can now imagine that the front fascia will also have similar sharp design cues. As per some online reports, Maruti is likely to position it above Brezza, and this unnamed SUV will become the flagship model of Arena showrooms. Hence, it might carry design traits from the e Vitara EV.

Feature-wise, Maruti will equip it to the brim with advanced technology. We are expecting the fully loaded variant to be equipped with a dual-pane sunroof, ventilated seats, leather upholstery, digital console, LED lights, and an ADAS safety module.

Since the Japanese carmaker is reliant on using one engine one platform, the Escudo (codename) is very likely to be offered with the same engine options as the Maruti Brezza. These will include the 1.5-litre petrol engine with the options of a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic, and the 1.5-litre CNG engine with the 5-speed manual transmission.

While the official launch is slated for September 3, we are expecting it to be priced around Rs 15-18 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival the Hyundai Creta and the Toyota Hyryder.

Our say

Maruti has chalked out the future plan for the Indian market. It will be introducing numerous new models, out which will be SUVs of different sizes and different powertrains. After the Escudo, it will be the e Vitara that will debut early next year in India.
