Key highlights
- Heavily camouflaged Kia Syros EV test mule spotted charging next to MG Windsor EV in Kochi
- Expected to share battery packs with Hyundai Inster EV – 42 kWh and 49 kWh options
- Will rival Tata Punch EV, MG Windsor EV, and possibly Nexon EV in pricing and performance
The upcoming Kia Syros EV has been spotted at a charging station in Kochi, parked next to the MG Windsor EV, confirming that real-world testing is underway. The test mule was wrapped in camouflage from bumper to window line, but key design cues and proportions were still visible.
This marks Kia’s shift from premium EVs like the EV6 and EV9 to the mass-market compact SUV segment, where the Syros EV will be positioned as the brand’s most affordable electric offering.
Design and Dimensions
Despite the camouflage, the Syros EV looks nearly identical to its ICE sibling. It retains the upright stance, roof rails, shark fin antenna, and body-coloured ORVMs. The front and rear lighting elements also appear unchanged, though expect a closed-off grille, EV-specific badging, and possibly green brake calipers to differentiate it.
Dimensions are expected to mirror the ICE Syros:
- Length: 3,995 mm
- Width: 1,805 mm
- Height: 1,680 mm
- Wheelbase: 2,550 mm
The side profile remains clean and tallboy-ish, with squared wheel arches and dual-tone alloy wheels.
Battery and Range Expectations
While Kia hasn’t confirmed specs, the Syros EV is likely to borrow its powertrain from the Hyundai Inster EV, which uses:
- 42 kWh or 49 kWh NMC battery packs
- Claimed range: up to 370 km (WLTP)
- Fast charging: 10% to 80% in ~30 minutes
These figures would place the Syros EV squarely in competition with the Tata Punch EV, MG Windsor EV, and Mahindra XUV400 EV. Expect multiple variants with different battery sizes and feature sets.
Features and Launch Timeline
Inside, the Syros EV is expected to carry over most features from the ICE version, including:
- 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Connected car tech
- Rear AC vents and ambient lighting
- EV-specific instrument cluster and drive modes
Kia may also introduce exclusive colour options and upholstery for the EV variant. The official unveil is expected in the coming months, with a launch likely by early 2026.
Pricing is expected to start around INR 14 lakh and go up to INR 20 lakh for top trims.
