GMA S1 LM revealed: A tribute to the McLaren F1 GTR

Gordon Murray Automotive has unveiled the S1 LM, a hyper-focused tribute to the legendary McLaren F1 GTR. Revealed at Monterey Car Week 2025, the S1 LM is a celebration of motorsport purity, design elegance, and mechanical obsession. Only five units will be built, each hand-crafted for a single private client, with deliveries set to begin in 2026.

This isn’t just a nod to the past, it’s a full-blown reinterpretation of the 1995 Le Mans winner, built on the bones of the GMA T.50, but with nearly every panel, component, and detail reimagined for track-ready performance and road legality.

Powertrain and Performance

At the heart of the S1 LM is a 4.3-liter naturally aspirated Cosworth V12, a larger evolution of the T.50’s engine. It produces over 700 hp, revs to a screaming 12,100 rpm, and is solid-mounted for sharper throttle response. The engine bay is lined with gold foil heat shielding, a nod to the original F1 GTR’s race-spec detailing3.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, tuned specifically for the S1 LM. No hybrid assistance, no turbochargers—just pure, analog fury.

Design and Aerodynamics

The S1 LM’s body is made entirely of new carbon fiber panels, featuring strakes, vents, and sculpted lines that enhance downforce and cooling. Key design cues include:

  • Roof-mounted scoop
  • Quad central exhausts
  • Split rear wing
  • Five-spoke wheels
  • Butterfly doors
  • Multi-piece diffuser and larger front splitter

Compared to the T.50, the S1 LM sits lower, rides wider, and looks more aggressive. It ditches the T.50’s rear fan but retains the central driving position and three-seat layout.

Interior

Inside, the S1 LM is stripped down for performance. It features:

  • Race-spec bucket seat in the center
  • Tartan upholstery with red accents
  • Vintage-style wooden gear shifter
  • Carbon fiber dash and steering wheel

It’s not luxurious, but it’s beautiful in its simplicity. Every detail is crafted to enhance the driving experience, not distract from it.
